Senior Wellness Program

Old age is not a disease.  But as our pet's bodies age, they do become prone to developing problems with different organ systems.  All of the body's systems are interrelated which means that a problem in one system will affect the functioning of every other system and cause your pet's overall health and well-being to suffer.

Most animals are naturally good at hiding symptoms of disease until the very last second.  Mother Nature gives them this ability to protect ill animals from predators in the wild.  In our homes, this can make it very difficult to detect problems until they have become quite severe.
With the progression of modern Veterinary Medicine, we now have the ability to counteract many age-related diseases with medications or special diets in order to not only prolong life but maintain a good quality of life as well.

For all Senior Pets, we recommend maintaining a parasite free lifestyle by continuing year-round Heartworm and Flea preventative. Our Senior Wellness packages include having a full exam every six months at your wellness visits.  It is very important to have frequent exams in senior pets as their bodies age about 5-7 years for every one year of life.  Also, additional tests are used to diagnose medical conditions early enough to intervene on behalf of your pet.  Full blood panels, urinalysis, thyroid panels, blood pressure screenings, glaucoma testing, ECG, and chest radiographs are recommended at least once yearly.
